childlike

Simple. That'd be the word that seems most fitting when living life as a child. Playing. Eating. Sleeping. Cuddling. Learning. Crying. Giggling. Why is childhood so simple? The fact that you need Mom and Dad is acceptable. It's acceptable to turn and run to them. It's like you actually have the right to need. As a child, you know where to go when you need something, and that's to the ones who fills those needs.

When you reach the stage of life where you've got to look like you have it all together, your needs seem to have have grown quite large. They are no long simple. They may even seem impossible. Not only that, but now you don't got the option to turn and run anymore. And now because they look so big, it's so much easier to get caught up in the complexity of them. But really they aren't as complex as they seem. Nor as large. Let's have a read really quick...

"Truly I say to you, unless you are converted and become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever then humbles himself as this child, he is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven." Matthew 18:3-4

It's easy to be deceived by our needs that display themselves as big because it's what our eyes are fixed on. Just when we think we have to figure everything out -be the perfect followers of Christ- do we realize that we have the right to need. To be like a child. To need Christ. He's the filler of needs. Why is it so hard to remember this? It's probably because I'm often so focused on "having it all together" that I forget it's in that place of humbling myself and needing where I actually have it together. Not because I'm oh-so-organized and sophisticated, but because I've come to the place of realizing that He's all I really need. When Jesus carries our needs, those complexities of life become much more simple. It's in that place where we realize we aren't alone. There we realize He is much bigger.

Today, I'm needy for Jesus.
